    Viewsonic VA721 Monitor isn't recognized

I'm running Kubuntu 6.10 from a CD with a Viewsonic VA721 LCD monitor.
This monitor should be run at 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz. The resolution comes
up iin Kubuntu at 800x600. If I go to KMenu->System Settings ->
monitor and display ->administrator mode -> hardware -> monitor,
The "size, orientation, and positioning tab" says the screen size is 800x600
and I can't increase it. If I then click on the Hardware tab, my monitor shows
up as a "plug 'n play" under manufacturers.. When I click on "configure",
Viewsonic VA721 is not one of the available options. I tried selecting
generic 1280x1024 flat panel, but when I "test" it, I just snow and I can't
    recover.

How can I set my monitor's resolution correctly?

You need to edit xorg.conf (found in /etc/X11)

Do a search on the forums for xorg.conf and you'll find more about it.
