A couple days ago my computer overheated and restarted itself. When I logged in, an option came up for switching my desktop format (not the exact wording) was not set with gnome for the default, and if I would like to. I wanted to see how gnome was different from KDE, so I tried it out, and now I have a few relatively superficial problems. First, my desktop is not configurable, in the respect that I a) can't see files on my desktop which are for certain there b) I can't set a screen saver or desktop background c) all of my panel setting were reset, and d) I have a hard time running certain applications, especially ones that require root privileges. What can I do?
