    Super n00b with Q's

    Hola,
I'm a complete n00b to Linux (and trust me, its hard for me to admit that) and I could use some help with installing a few things like Firefox, Flash and Java. These are the 3 main things I need to get my system running the way  would like it and they all seem to be rather illusive, as I only have a basic understanding of how the command line works, and really no idea how Adept and the apt-get programs work I could really use a hand here. Whether you can give me a asic step by step guide, or point me towards one any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should note here that I tried to install FireFox using the intructions found here:

    http://pykeylogger.sourceforge.net/w...ild_of_Firefox

but it doesnt seem to have really done anything, I can't find an icon anywhere, and I tried typing "firefox" and "mozilla-firefox" into the command line and all I got was::

    -laptop:~/Desktop$ firefox
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    -laptop:~/Desktop$ mozilla
    bash: mozilla: command not found
    -laptop:~/Desktop$ mozilla-firefox

    run-mozilla.sh: Cannot execute /opt/firefox/mozilla-firefox-bin.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Generally, have a look at the Unofficial Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) Starter Guide at http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper

Specifically, if you have quick download speed install Automatix. This is a script which downloads and installs many important programs. You can read about on the above document at http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper#H...2C_and_Xubuntu
