    Can't launch Adept/Synaptic/Administrator mode

    Hi all,

    since a couple of weeks I have been working my way into Kubuntu Edgy.

    The most annoying problem that I have is that quite often programs like Adept, Synaptic, Automatix or the Administrator mode within the System Settings don't start. One is usually promted for a password and as long I am prompted it works, but there are many cases when I am not promted to enter anything at all and then the applications don't start :-((

    Has anyone experienced/resolved anything similar? Many thanks in advance!

    Yes I have experienced this. Try to start the program again (and again if necessary) until you are prompted for a password.

      This may be a problem related to Edgy that doesn't happen in Dapper? You'll likely get a lot more readership from folks experienced with Edgy if you posted in the Edgy Eft forum.

        Apotessar,

        you may add timestamp_timeout=0 to the Defaults set in /etc/sudoers in order to factually "disable" password caching (read: to ensure being prompted for it every time) ... hopefully, this will help you on.

          I have had the same problem before and it would take a few attempts before being prompted for a password sometimes. Also, I would be in adept and after a little while, it would just close on me for no apparent reason. I'm going to try out what you suggested penguin.ch and I'll post in this thread how it works out for me.

            penguin.ch,

            thanks a lot, your solution really seems to work! No more problems after I've added this.

            Anyway, annoying stuff like that has to be sorted out in the next versions, if the Kubuntu user base is meant to grow.

              Haven't got around to posting until now, but the solution from penguin.ch DID work and continues to. Thanks for the help again!

                  I had this problem and added the above to the "Defaults" section of sudoers, but now everything that requires the root password has an error. I can't even do "sudo -s" or "su" in a terminal. Help!!! How do I edit the sudoers file without root privileges?

                    Nevermind, I used this guide to restore the sudoers file;

                    http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sudo

                    A great guide/howto to have.

                    Now, how do you apply the timestamp_timeout=0, safely?
