can't play music from cd's

I tried the hints from the Wiki and can't play cd's. I tried installing akode-mpeg and then killall artsd to restart the sound server. Doesn't alsa have to be set up ? How is that done ? Any help appreciated.

first I'd suggest that you konsole
sudo apt-get update (refreshes avaliable packages)
sudo apt-get synaptic

kynaptic is crap synaptic has more options run synaptic select advanced and set so
preferences recommended packages are dependencies.

install for example amarok and make sure the amarok output eg alsasink is the same as system sound output or you will get no sound.

hope this helps as I believe either your issue is missing dependency or mismached audio settings

Hi there,

I still can't get Kaffine to work either so I did the only reasonable thing to do...I switched to amaroK! Follow the above poster's advice and hopefully that will get things going for you.
