NEW INFO ADDED - CD and Floppy disk icon missing from Desktop

My Desktop does not show an icon for the CD-RW drive and for the floppy disk drive.
When I insert a CD into the drive it is read and, if necessary, acted upon.

The floppy drive is not shown at all. I went into Konqueror to dig it up. It is there but clicking on it does not do a thing. When I attempt to mount it, a message claims that is is already mounted as /media/fd0.

The location has "No items - No files - No folders".

What am I missing?

May be u are not setting the device icons?
right click on desktop-> configure desktop -> behaviour -> device icon

or have u try another media?

OK, the floppy disk icon appeared.
when I click on it I get this message:

"The reported error was:
mount: can't find /dev/fd0 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab"

Using Kubuntu 6.06.
Is there a standard entry for fstab?

Alright, according to the 'bug' list for Edgy Eft, "media:/ does not handle floppy mounting correctly".

Don't know yet whether this was corrected for the official release.

New Info:

Non-working floppy is a bug in 6.06 and 6.10. See the Kubuntu bug list for symtoms and workarounds.

I followed one of the instrucions and not only got the floppy working in both 6.06 and 6.10 but also a working dekstop icon.
