    Cant start Kubuntu...

I'm tired of windows XP...so, I started to look at the alternative, linux. I am very new at linux, so forgive my lack of knowledge of the OS. I have a ASROCK 775Dual-VSTA PT880PRO 775 MOBO, INTEL|CORE 2 E6600 2.4G 775 with 1024GB ram...ATA HD (Maxtor, I believe).

I was able to run the downloaded CD on an older pc...I was also able to run the live CD KNOPPIX on the above pc...but Kubuntu...no luck. What happens is that when it is starting up from the CD, it will hang on a black screen with white words and always stuck at "Checking Network". It never gets thruogh there...I do have a D-link AG530 wireless pci card...

Anyone have any thoughts of what I should be able to do to correct this?

    Thanks in advance...

I'm not sure what your problem is, but i think it's related to your new hardware (Core2 and mobo) and the kernel in dapper might have problems there. Give the 6.10 Edgy RC1 a try as it has a newer kernel: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/EdgyEft/RC/Kubuntu

Bada bing... When I was running Windows XP I had the exact same wireless card in both my home office computers. On both, the install crashed when it got to the network configuration section. I removed the card and was able to bypass the network section. I then did the install from the live CD on the desktop; got a few error messages but was otherwise able to get Kubuntu installed. After that finished I powered down and physically installed the AG530 and it crashed again on network configuration; sorry, I don't have a happy ending for this DLink card. I could never even get the system to boot if the card was physically installed.

There is however the easy solution that I used. I bought a Buffalo Wireless Ethernet Converter that was recommended off of another board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162168

It essentially works like a "reverse" wireless router. It picks up a signal and has 4 ethernet ports. I have both computers and a print server connected to my printer hooked to this now and it works like a champ. There is a 2 paragraph instruction in the setup pamphlet that tells how to set up the device through your web browser. It took me about 10 minutes to get up and running and online.

My PCs are running Intel D975XBX & Intel D915PBL motherboards with Pentium D 930 and Pentium 4 630 processors respectively. It IS the card causing you grief NOT your newer motherboard or CPU. My symptoms were the exact same on both systems.
