Text installer does not detect my IDE drives

I had to use the alternate install option in order to make Kubuntu boot correctly. More can be explained in my old thread

I have 2 IDE drives, 1 SATA drive, and 3 USB storage devices.

I tried running the alternate installer, and it doesn't seem to detect my IDE drives. It only detects my SATA drive (sda) and my other usb drives. I'm sure that my IDE drives are working because I could use them in Windows.

Now, I want to install Kubuntu using the alternate installer into hda1, which used to be my old Linux partition. However, it is strange that the alternate install doesn't detect hda nor does it detect hdb (which has a normal NTFS partition), but it detects sda (which has my windows installation in 1 partition), and sdb, sdc, and sdd (which are my USB drives).

Is it because there's something wrong with my BIOS configuration, or perhaps it has something to do with the compatibility of the installer with my motherboard?

I am using the DVD amd64 image on a Pentium D motherboard and CPU.
