    Problem with a DVD-Rom

Hi i am new to all of these. But i am excited. Unfortunately when I am run Kubuntu 6.06 LTS from the cd, it says that i have some problem with a dvd-rom. And it crashes. I have to reset the computer. I have a Pentium 4 2,8Ghz with 1GB ram, 280GB HDD SATA, LG-H10N recorder and a Plextor DVD-rom.
It says that a dvd-rom device is causing that. Do you have any suggestion?

More specifically: When it says "Mounting Root File System" stucks there for about a minute and then it displays the following things: "The drive appears confused (ireason=0x01), IRQ 169 nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
    Disabling IRQ 169
hdc: cdrom_pc_intr the drive appears confused
and then my screen feels with that last one and i have to reset it. Any advise?
