first: it isn't a corrupt iso.
quick overview:
(multiple) kubuntu iso live install burned at 4x runs but cannot boot kernel (it stops at 'booting the kernel'), been searching forums for weeks for answers, tried everything.
specs:
intel pentium 4, 3.00 ghz
1gb ddr2 single-channel
pioneer SATA drd-rw/cd-rw
maxtor SATA 300gb hard drive
asus p5wd2 premium motherboard: 4 SATA (2 master 2 slave)
(all 32 bit)
stuff i've tried:
boot methods: acpi=off, noapic nolapic, pnpbios=off in various combinations
bios config=disable usb, legacy support/compatable mode for sata config, disable all other boot devices, plug and play OS = on, acpi apic support = off.
BOOT METHODS USED- if you already know what's wrong (and its not a corrupt cd, really) you can skip the boot methods i've tried.
ALL BOOT METHODS DONE WITH DEFAULT MB SETTINGS
Boot method: live acpi=off
Result: i get "PNPBIOS: resource structure does not contain an end tag"
boot method: live acpi=off pnpbios=off
result: i get nothing after booting the kernel
boot method: live acpi=off noapic nolapic pnpbios=off
result: "[ a floating point number] BIOS bug, local apic #0 not detected!..."
note: this might be a clue... does it not detect my cd drive?
boot method: live noapic nolapic
result: same as above, except without a space before the number in the brackets
boot method: live noapic nolapic pnpbios=off
result: same as above
boot method: live pnpbios=off
result: nothing after 'booting the kernel'
boot method: throw a fit, break household item, apologize to household item, weep, throw feces, rain dance
result: BSOD... or hallucination of blinking underscore against lifeless, powered-off monitor
as you can tell, i'm not giving up on this distro. i would strongly prefer to use the live install cd, as i cannot obtain the text install version. i am 100% sure it is not the cd. thank you for reading this.
