    Yet another wireless problem

    Hi

I have a vaio laptop. The wireless worked out of the box for me, but then I did something. It all happened when I installed the latest nVidia drivers. I don't know why, but the wireless just stopped working (I now have no wireless extension anywhere, my eth1 is gone).

The thing is that the driver seems to get loaded correctly, because I found this piece when doing dmesg:

    [17179583.812000] ieee80211_1_1_13_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL'
    [17179583.812000] ieee80211_1_1_13: 802.11 data/management/control stack, 1.1.13

    [17179583.888000] ipw3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation

    and a bit further down:

    [17179584.240000] ipw3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

There is a led that should be lit when the wireless is on, but it is now dark.

The bluetooth can be turned off with spicctrl -l 0 (on which the Bluetooth lid gets dark) and turned on with spicctrl -l 1, and I wonder if there is a similar command for the wifi?

    Thanks!

EDIT: I now tried booting with the Kubuntu LiveCD, and the Wireless worked rigth away, so now I know I MUST have made some stupid change.

      Re: Yet another wireless problem

      Hi, and thanks for answering.

I've tried using the instructions found here: http://wlan0.net/vaio/, but it doesn't seem to work. Isn't there a similar command to that of the bluetooth (spicctrl -l 1)? For instancte wireless eth1 1 or something like that?

What I did when it stopped working (I think) was to flick the "Wireless on/off" switch during the installation of the nvidia driver.

In windows the switch only controls the wireless, but in Linux it seems to control both the wireless and the bluetooth. Neither worked at first, but the bluetooth got going with spicctrl -l 1. Now it seems that the switch ONLY controls the bluetooth, so I guess that I've done something to disconnect the wireless-card from the switch. That's why I wonder if there is a command to manually get it up =)

      Thanks
