    Strange but true

I own an old IBM t21 laptop with kubuntu and windows 2000 on seperate partitions. When I boot directly to kubuntu upon startup, it always hangs after the boot screen loads. The problem can be remedied by first booting into windows, restarting and then selecting kubuntu.

    Anyone know why?

    Bitches,

at first sight I would suggest adding nodma to the boot parameters (see Grub Manual for further information, if needed).

However, to help you on we / I would like to know what the system is trying to do when it hangs. Thereto, boot into Linux - but do avoid the splash screen hiding what's going on ... this way, you should be able to read your system's messages (especially the last "pre-mortem" ones) - what should help us narrow down the source of your trouble ...
