xserver will not start on cd

i'm using two fx 5500 [one agp one pci] an emachine mobo and a Athlon(tm) xp 2400+ the cd stops when x tries to start

Hi,

You should try to connect to console mode (Ctrl Alt F1) then type startx and check errors. This should help to fix the trouble.
