    [Multimedia] No sound 20.04LTS

Hi all, look forward to being a new forum member.

I cannot for the life of me seem to get the sound from my laptop speakers to work at all.

I have tried the suggestions from https://itsfoss.com/fix-sound-ubuntu-1304-quick-tip/ to no avail, plus all suggestions in the comments.

I have tried adding dmic_detect=0, blacklisting various drivers, altering some settings in BIOS but nothing.

Hopefully someone will have an idea, I've tried a few bits over the last few days and it's starting to make me angry. It's a fresh install so I'm open to try anything (once I know what to do then I'll reinstall and go from there)

Laptop is a chinese one (I know) and the only outputs showing in alsamixer is the HDMI.

    J4115 CPU (Gemini Lake chipset)
The drivers show in windows as Intel SST, and ESAuDevice Driver (which seems to be an ES8316.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

The link you used is from 2013, and is probably extremely outdated.
What specific laptop make and model is it?
These System-on-Chip (SoC) machines can need niggly fiddly things to get sound and other bits working.
If this is actually a Chromebook, then there will be zero sound support for this in Linux, even if technically the hardware is supported on other boards, such as low end Windows versions of these Chromebooks.

It's a KUU XBook. Not a huge amount when you dig for that, which is why I went straight for trying to work out the codec. It's not a Chromebook
