I just installed Kubuntu not a day ago and I'm a complete noob. Can anyone explain how to help me play mp3's and regular DVD's? I read the guides and they didn't seem to make it much clearer to me. Please help lol. Thanks!

I'm still having trouble. I have the libdvdcss2 package, but everytime I try to go install it, it won't let me. I also need the libdvdread3 package but I don't know where that is. I'm so lost and I feel more like a noob every minute.

Are you using Synaptic Package Manager which is the best. It will tell you if there are problems and what they are. Try using the search facility."A problem well stated is a problem half solved." --Charles F. Kettering

Re: Getting mp3's and copy protected DVDs to play on Kubuntu
Try automatix. its quite good at installing 'problematic installs'.
It handles Firefox, thunderbird, audio/video restricted formats and even ms fonts.
I regularly install Kubuntu and I use apt-get 95% of the time and for those PC's I have to install any of those mentioned above (it installls a lot more) use Automatix.
just one thing: read the last question of automatix and make sure you click the correct button otherwise Automatix will overwrite your sources.list
