    no C compiler on kunbuntu

    Hello,

I would like install the vlc media player so I can't. When I try the command Make, the system doesn't known this command, so I don't understand, because i thought it was a basic command. But, it is not the only problem. When I try to cinfigure my system with : ./configure , the system doesn't found my : gcc, cc and cl . So it can't found my C compiler. My questions are the following:
    - why the command Make doesn't not install ?
    - why I don't have a C compiler on my computer ?
I have install a release of Kunbuntu 2 weeks ago and I want to understand this environement.

    Thank you for your help.

    You haven't installed it ?

    Install build-essential packages.

    informational list of build-essential packages
If you do not plan to build Debian packages, you don't need this
package. Moreover this package is not required for building Debian
    packages.

This package contains an informational list of packages which are
considered essential for building Debian packages. This package also
depends on the packages on that list, to make it easy to have the
    build-essential packages installed.

If you have this package installed, you only need to install whatever
a package specifies as its build-time dependencies to build the
package. Conversely, if you are determining what your package needs
to build-depend on, you can always leave out the packages this
    package depends on.

Even more useful would be the VLC package - no need to mess around compiling from source.
