Wireless connected but no web!

Hi all,
I've tried a few distros of linux now and the only one I've ever got anywhere near working on the net is kubuntu.
It picks up my wireless router and says I have a strong signal. Under auto settings it won't connect to the router but when i configure it manualy it connects, however it won't download any webpages. The routers a 3com 3crwdr100a-72 and the networks card is a usb edimax using the zd1211 chipset. I'm sure its just in the configuration but i'm stumped.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

I guess it's a trouble with dns server...
Can you ping the router ? If yes, so it should be this.
check this by cat /etc/resolv.conf
if they're not ok, you can install them like they should (given by your ISP)
Try again after it should be ok.

I can't connect to the router.
its all recognised under wlassistant but thats where it ends
your going to have to explain this in simple terms for me i'm afraid

So can you give me the output of the following commands :
ifconfig -a
iwconfig
cat /etc/resolv.conf
cat /etc/network/interfaces
sudo route

I will try to check and explain you.

So it seems that you've found the AP (access point) but not have an ip...
Try these commands please and give the output :
sudo dhclient wlan0
ifconfig -a

Ok Its very strange but it seems to be working fine today. I'll post the output anyway to see if there is anything wrong at all.

Everything seems to be ok. As you can see you get the ip 192.168.1.3 so it's working...
If you have once some troubles don't hesitate to post again here...
