well , let me just say that some times the driver manager will remove the old but fail to install the new .

and when I say sometimes I mean just now ,

I just used it to try to go from the 390 to the 430 and ,,,,,,same as you .

    I used
    Code:
    sudo reboot now
    to restart the box then
    Code:
    lsmod
to see what was loaded , it was noview or however you spell that .

    then I
    Code:
    sudo apt install nvidia-driver-430
and now all is well and it finished removing the 390 stuff and installed the 430 , one more reboot and I am using the 430 driver .

    on this

    Code:
Operating System: KDE neon Testing Edition
    KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.2
    KDE Frameworks Version: 5.60.0
    Qt Version: 5.12.3
    Kernel Version: 5.0.0-20-generic
    OS Type: 64-bit
    Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-4910MQ CPU @ 2.90GHz
    Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM
    with a Nvidia-GTX-860M

    This really isn't helpful.

Post the exact error messages. Review and post pertinent log files. How you installed and the output from the installation, etc. As WWDERW excellently points out, where you obtained the drivers is paramount also.

There's really no way anyone can help you when the only information you've offered is that it's not working.

Just out of curiosity, did you get the drivers through the driver manager or through PPA? I've flipped so much between Neon and Kubuntu recently, I can't remember if Kubuntu had it available on both, I remember one time Kubuntu 18.04 wouldn't even list anything in the driver manager at one time, no matter how long I waited, but then on my latest install, it showed up, but I didn't use it because of that previous experience. I'm running 430 now on Kubuntu, but I went through the PPA to get it. And no issues so far. If you went through the driver manager, that's where I would think the issue happened, just based solely on that one experience.

NVIDIA drivers 430 crashes my Kubuntu

    Hello everyone,

I am on an acer laptop with an MX150 gpu. I installed Kubuntu 18.04 (details below) recently. When I tried to check the available drivers for the gpu with

    ubuntu-drivers list

    it lists :
    nvidia-driver-390
    nvidia-driver-410
    nvidia-driver-430
    nvidia-driver-396
    nvidia-driver-418
    nvidia-driver-415

The driver manager setting says 430 is recommended (I am on 390.116 now) , but when I install that driver, Kubuntu starts complaining. I am unable to shutdown (crash), open the settings (crash) or do anything basically.

Can someone help me with this? I would like to be able to use 430 in order to work with Tensorflow, although I am unsure about the performance gain with using an MX150 :P

    Thanks a lot,
    Have a nice day.

    Kubuntu details:
    Static hostname: konsole
    Icon name: computer-laptop
    Chassis: laptop
    Operating System: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
    Kernel: Linux 4.18.0-25-generic
    Architecture: x86-64

Working...
