How do I install applications... this seems rediculous!

I need firefox, which I downloaded and its a tar.gz, what do I do?

hi, it depends on which one did u downloaded.
if it is the 1.0.7 then u can use ark it to extract it to your folder and in there's a firefox.bin file. that's the installer (or firefox-install or setup, lol sorry don't have 1.07 since long time ago)

if u got the 1.5 beta2 then just extract to your folder and run firefox.
(in the mozilla site u have help on how to install it)

but if don't want the bleeding edge of firefox u can do:
sudo apt-get mozilla-firefox

and get the one from the repositories.

Its the 1.5 beta, I have the folder on my desktop, I click the one that just says Firefox and nothing happens, same with the one that says firefox-bin

And that command you gave me, where would I input that anyway?

ok, let see...
on the konsole.
u imput it on the konsole, and the konsole u open it on the menu
where it says terminals
or shells
tell me, it is your first linux?

if u click the right mouse over the K on the panel there's an option edit menu
there u can add the firefox and then u can run it clicking on the menu
