External drive gets dropped in 18.04?

I've just installed Kubuntu 18.04 on a Brix 3160 rig. Surpisingly everything was fine (install, net, sound…) until i wanted to copy files from external HDD (previously used with windows)…

I connect the drive, Kubuntu recognizes it, notification appears on the taskbar, etc.. But when i start copying directories after a few seconds i get a new notification about connected drive and also an error message from the copy, that file doesn't exist or similar.

Looks like for some reason Kubuntu attaches/detaches the drive.

Any idea what is going on pretty pls?

    Thanks!

What version of Windows? Is/was the external HDD formatted "for Windows", i.e., ntfs maybe?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Used with windows7, the HDD has several partitions(including system partition too, also win7) NTFS formatted.

Check to see if you have the package ntfs-3g installed. http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/...ntfs-3g.8.html

Who owns the disk? I've recently run into trouble with external disks being owned by root after reformatting.

Are you talking about the NTFS rights on the external disk? This was a win7 system disk earlier.
