    Login freezing after application install

HI Guys. I have a problem, again. I was trying to install tightvncserver and krdb on kubuntu 24:10 long story short i had no joy but i now have a big issue. WHen i rebooted the machine and i try to login to my default account it just hangs at the login screen. I managed to load a terminal window and create a new account which runs perfectly. My plan was to login to my original account via the file manager but i can't get in that way, however if i run a terminal and sudo in to the original account i can access it from there. I'm not what you'd call a quitter but I have resigned myself to the fact that I may need to reinstall. That is unless anyone might know of a way to reset he default account?
I'm kind of in a state of limbo on this,
    any help would be appreciated.
