Can't stream music from NAS and dual monitor wallpaper question.

HI everyone, fairly noob to Linux and this is the first time I've tried Kubuntu, so far I'm liking the feel of it and it may be the one to finally get me away from Windows. I'm hoping someone can help with an issue. I have a NAS attached to my local network that has my music and video files, I can navigate there using Dolphin and see all the files and folders, no problems. When I tried to play some music with Haruna I can see the NAS shares but not the folders. If I try to drag and drop a file to Haruna I get the message.

"Unable to create KIO worker. Unknown protocol 'smb'"

Have also tried Elisa and network files wont play using that either.

Am running the latest Kubuntu (42.10) installed on it's own SSD. I tried running 'inxi -F --xxx' as mentioned in the above sticky but got the error (Error 22: Unsupported option: --xxx) Please ask if I can provide any more information.

Also, I was wanting to put different backgrounds on each of my 2 monitors but couldn't find a way to do so. Some googling suggested 'superpaper' but I couldn't get the appimage to run.

    TIA.

First, a note about forum etiquette. It's generally a poor practice to ask about two completely unrelated topics in a single post. It's much better to separate them so you and others can more easily follow the responses.

Re: SAMBA (the "smb" protocal), it is probable that you don't have SAMBA permissions correctly configured. You may need to mount the SAMBA share in /etc/fstab so you can better control how it's mounted. You need to do a little research on SAMBA and post more information about your setup before anyone will be able to help. Possibly reading the link in my forum sig will push you in the right direction on how to get more responses.

As far as dual monitor wallpaper - sort of the same response - what exactly have you tried to get wallpapers on each screen? You certainly do not need some outside application to do it. The functionality is right there in System Settings > Appearance & Style > Wallpaper. I've had dual monitors for decades and always use individual wallpapers.

      Thanks for the reply.

Simple one first, I checked out the wallpaper menu as you suggested but still couldn't see how to set individual wallpapers for each monitor. In the end, the solution was to simply right-click on each individual monitor and set the wallpaper from there.

The network issues was not as simple, after hours of googling and not being able to find any simple instructions for someone new to Linux I found an app called gigolo and mounted the nas shares from there. For some reason, networked files still wont play using Eliza or Haruna but will now at least work with VLC IF I DRAG AND DROP. If I try to open the files from the app itself I still can't find them. I did notice that all three of the media apps use the same 'file browser' when trying to open a file so maybe that browser has an issue that I can't figure out. so that 's OK I guess. I'm still baffled why I can see the shares on Dolphin and Gigolo but those other apps wont?
