    Cyberghost VPN

Hi, i have just purchased a 2nd hand HP Elitebook with the express intention of daily driving Linux. I am getting sick of Windoze bloatware and adverts and think its time to see if i can daily drive a linux distro. I have picked Kubuntu with the Plasma desktop and after 7 days of slowly looking at what I use on windows and finding an equivalent to replace it, I have pretty much gotten then basic done. I am reading my emails and surfing the web. Doing my accounts and I am very happy with everything. I am getting to the end of my job list and finally come to a VPN. I have an account with CyberGhost so it makes sense to use their service. However I have followed the installation instructions as best I can and everything says its been installed ok and my account has been verified.

The 1st thing I have notice is the lack of a GUI, so I tried the command line and still cannot anything to work. Has anyone else managed to get Cyberghost working?, is there a GIU available for newbie's ?

    Welcome to KFN.

What version of Kubuntu did you install? Assuming either 20.04 or 22.04, the two versions supported, then check out this installation guide: https://medium.com/@wabwilejoseph432...e-919a669dc4cf and verify that you did all the steps.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply.

I have installed Kubuntu 24.04, the article on medium.com simply does not work, some of the step do and some do not. I have managed to get it installed now but still unable to get it running.

when I run the command as stated, the following happens.

      case@ian-hpelitebook840g5:~$ sudo cyberghostvpn --connect
      Prepare OpenVPN connection ...
      Select server ... case@ian-hpelitebook840g5:~$

I have checked my IP using curl ifconfig and its the same, it does not change.

case@ian-hpelitebook840g5:~$ sudo cyberghostvpn --traffic --country-code DE --connect
      Prepare OpenVPN connection ...
      Select server ... frankfurt-s490-i35
      Connecting ...
      Downloading configuration ...
      case@ian-hpelitebook840g5:~$

but after checking my ip address it is the same as normal.

any ideas ?, wish there was a nice GUI available for newbie idiots like me.

I can only state what the site link I provided indicates, and that's that CyberGhostVPN supports Ubuntu/Kubuntu 20.04 and 22.04. If you are having issues, I'm prone to suggest that it's because you are attempting to install/run it on a version of Ubuntu/Kubuntu the developer isn't (yet) supporting.

How are you "checking" your IP address? I've not used CyberGhost, I use PIA. Here, the IP address of my ethernet and/or wifi connections remain the assigned IPs as normal, but the virtual adapter - TUN0 - shows the external IP.

          I run this to check:

          curl ipinfo.io

https://www.iplocation.net/, i check before and after and they stay the same.
