    [Utilities] Linux Text-to-Speech apps

Hello, all. Linux newbie here, escaping from Windows. But... there are a (very) few apps that I have not found for Linux.

I use Balabolka and TextAloud in windows, to convert ebooks into audiobooks. This is about the most strenuous thing I ask of my computer. Not a very hard life!

Does anyone know of any TTS apps in Linux, capable of transcoding long texts and producing sound files (usually mp3, but hey! I'm open to Ogg or whatever).

    Thanks.

There's a couple projects out there in github:

    https://github.com/aedocw/epub2tts
    https://github.com/p0n1/epub_to_audiobook

    There are several more.

If you have Windows tools that work to your satisfaction and you are familiar with, you might consider diving into the world of Virtual Machines (VM). This kind of task might be well suited to running in a Windows VM.

Granted, you'd have to learn how to make and use a VM but it's not very difficult. VirtualBox is pretty easy to use and had very good documentation and support.

+1 for Windows in a VM. When I ran Windows in a qemu/kvm VM on my work (till I finished last year) laptop, an ageing Lenovo, Windows 10 ran better than it had as a dual boot.

I found a couple TTS "projects", but they require a great deal od Konsol... and I'm a newbie.
VirtualBox looks a bit daunting, but I'll give it a try.
        Thanks for your help.

          This seems relevant: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/how-to-...box#1-overview

Then maybe follow it with this: https://techwiser.com/how-to-install...in-virtualbox/

Thank you. Today, I'm on ironing-board duty, but I'll look at these tomorrow.
