Upgrade KUbuntu 17.10 to 18.04 not detecting new OS

    Hi,

i have KUbuntu 17.10 and i want to upgrade it to v18.04

i tried several way, but none of them works. Why ?

    in terminal i tried:
    sudo do-release-upgrade

    answer:
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
    No new release found.

    so i tried:
    kdesudo "do-release-upgrade -m desktop -f DistUpgradeViewKDE"

    answer:
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
    No new release found.

    so i tried:
    sudo do-release-upgrade -cd

    answer:
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
    New release '18.04' available.
Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

    but it never upgrades OS.

    why ?

Release upgrades are not enabled until a few days after the main release for the ISOs. This is deliberate so any upgrade bugs with the final set of packages have a chance to be caught before mass upgrades are enabled.

At this point the '-d' option bypasses that block, but in the only case you used that you combined it with '-c' which is for 'checking' if there is a new release, but just reporting it, not acting on it.

      Try these commands :
      sudo apt install update-manager-core
      and Then
      sudo do-release-upgrade -d

i already checked if "sudo apt install update-manager-core" was ok and i already had it installed to newest version.
adding the -d allow upgrade on my laptop but after booting, no more kubuntu available...just a black screen

i will check if nvidia driver is again guilty for that

thx a lot for this information i was thinking that since official release is available in SPIN, DVD, ISO or network, therefore upgrade is also available normally using do-release-upgrade
basically the -d switch is for development version...so not official final release

if it's nvidia then that's the problem.
            did the upgrade work though?

In fact my problem is under Nvidia and AMD Radeon video cards as my 2 computers use different cards.

On my laptop i moved /home onto another partition so i reinstalled from USB stick 18.04 and i just need to reinstall apps and settings.

but for my desktop it's a little more complicated and it uses AMD graphic card.

AFAIK the default GUI will be available soon.

till then, you have to type : sudo do-release-upgrade -d

-d is for development branch as ubuntu team wait few days before releasing the "final final" version...

then a simple: sudo do-release-upgrade will be enough.

Does this apply to Neon 16.04 as well?
