    Installing Mac OS X again

Recently, I have installed Kubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger). Everything works fine, except that I made a mistake during installation. Now, the installation program has deleted the entire system, and I can only start-up Kubuntu. I tried to install Mac OS X Panther again, but it did not work. I guess it has to do with the file system, since Mac OS X 10.3 uses HFS+ and not the Linux format. Can somebody help how I can "lay down the filesystem" (I heard reformat is not the correct terminology) the hard drive? If it is possible, I want it to have 2 partitions, one for Linux and one for Mac OS X. I heard you can use fdisk, but I am a little scared of the terminal...

Re: Installing Mac OS X again

Hi, I am a Linux newbie but has been a Mac user my entire life. I still use Mac OS X for my multimedia projects and OS 9 in school. Anyway, this is how you do it. I presume you have back-up of your files because we are going to erase your entire hardrive.

    1. Boot from your OS X install CD.
    2. Go to File ( located in the menu bar) and select Disk Utility from drop-down menu.
    3. In the window, highlight your hardrive icon ( on the left panel of the window.
    4. Select PARTITION
    5. Make two partitions and resize it ( the size depends on you)
    6. The first partition should be for OS X. Format it as Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    7. Make the secondary partition for Linux and format it as FREE Space.
    8. Now hit the confirmation tab (ERASE)and the hardrive will be partitioned.
    9. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and continue installing OSX. Note that only the OS X partition will appear.
    10. After installatin of OS X, it now time to install Kubuntu Linux.
    11. Insert the Kubuntu CD and restart.
    12. Press "c" and you will go to the installatio process.
    13. Just type "install" and continue installing by following the install procedure.
    14. When you reach the partitioning stage, just select, "Install on largest continouos free space". That's the partition you did previously.
    15. The installer will automatically partition the drive .
    16. Continue installing till t finished.
    17. After installing everything, it will boot to linux by default.
    18. If you want to boot to OSX, hit the "x" key on the keyboard. if you want linux, hit "l" key.
    19. Enjoy.

It worked! Now I have both Linux and Mac OS X on my computer, thank you very much (again). As a token of my gratitude, here are a few links you might find interesting (as an Apple user, but you probably now them already):

http://applejack.sourceforge.net/ AppleJack is a user friendly troubleshooting assistant for Mac OS X. With AppleJack you can troubleshoot a computer even if you can't load the GUI, or don't have a startup CD handy. AppleJack runs in Single User Mode and is menu-based for ease of use.

http://homepage.mac.com/mar0588/main...ersonal20.html Easy program to maintain your Mac OS X system.

http://cyberduck.ch/ FTP (File Transfer Protocol), free program, works great for uploading things to your website.

http://www.yellowmug.com/snapndrag/ Capture easily something on your screen.

Well that are all the programs I think are handy and are not included by default on your Mac OS X system. I hope you find them useful.
