Doubt about subforum KDE Neon

Hello and sorry for this my first thread in this forum (kubuntu forum).

I new in kubuntu (I go to install kubuntu next week) but I a user of others distros based in ubuntu with plasma.

I view this subforum of kde neon, I read her FAQ but...this subforum its for kde neon distro?

When I view this subforum I think that, are a possibility of add some apt for install new kde software in kubuntu, but after read faq I not sure about this...

There is a KDEneon subforum because, although KDEneon and Kubuntu are not distributed the same way, they share a very large percentage of their packages. Which means the configurations and potential problems are the same. Virtually anything you can install on Kubuntu you can install on KDEneon.

Kubuntu is Ubuntu with Plasma 5 desktop environment.
KDEneon is Ubuntu with Plasma 5 desktop environment.

The difference is the Plasma packages provided to KDEneon are from a Plasma development team that specializes in only Plasma. So the package updates are generally released quicker than the Kubuntu team gets to it. Also, KDEneon is based on a 16.04 LTS (Long Term Support) core so many of the base packages are in "stable" (bug fixes only, no new features) mode. If you install the latest Kubuntu 17.10, you will have newer packages than KDEneon in many cases, but be a bit behind in Plasma.

In my opinion, KDEneon is less bug prone than Kubuntu 17.10 but still has the latest and greatest Plasma. Kubuntu 17.10 has newer features. It's a matter of choice.

We decided to have a separate KDEneon subforum because they are quite a few KDEneon users on this forum (me, for one) and they occasionally have KDEneon specific things to discuss. We even have some members that use another distro but are on this forum because of our commitment to inclusion of all levels of skill without judgement.

Hey... there are several divergent people at the KDE Neon place...notice that I did not say "forum" .

if you have ever, you may or may not, been involved with "development'... It really can be a "thing"... you ...and I...really do NOT know what is involved in the "deep[ thought' that is involved... I , literally, developed
the "code" for a NASA rocket calculation decades ago...but I could not so do now... sometimes it is a "hair twirler" that keeps you wound up and at other times it is sleeping on a couch after staring code...

Interesting. In the fall of 1975 (IIRC) I purchased an SR-52 from TI. It had a magnetic strip reader and each strip could hold 224 program steps. I programed a three stage model rocket calculation using three strips, which predicted the max altitude for the 3rd stage, given the mass, diameter, drag coeff, impulse, burn time of the engine, for each stage, etc. I still have the original program written on grid paper. TI added it to their manual of user programs it made available to buyers of the SR-52.

Besides physics and math problems I also used it to calculate grades, etc. On the last day of class, in May of 1976, it spontaneously grew legs and walked away.

For the next year I built and used in my physics classes a HeathKit Analog computer. A year later, in 1978, I bought an Apple ][+, the first one sold in Nebraska. Two years after that I quit teaching and began writing software for commercial and client use, and continued programming till I retired in 2008.

I WAS SO JEALOUS...when i was in the navy...a buddy BUILT a heathkit...and then he controlled the helicopter to navigate the DASH and then the thing flew off into the Gulf of Tonkin never to be seen again. lol

I loved HeathKit stuff. I believe that I built EVERYTHING they sold, including the Console color TV. It's high voltage CRT power source was 17KV. You could put an unexposed Polaroid film on the TV screen and hold your hand on the film for about 5 minutes and you'd get a weak xray pattern of the bones in your hand. They later dropped the voltage to 15KV to avoid the soft x-rays.
I also built their DC60, a transmitter that used a key to sent Mores code. And a grid dip meter, and a metal detector, and a strip chart recorder, and ... stuff I can't remember any more. I had a day devoted to grieving when they went bankrupt.

I myself use Maui which is Neon based. Unfortunately developers there seem to be ready to end that OS so I will be going back to Kubuntu when BB comes out.

I do however still use Kubuntu forums as my base to discuss. I've never been in a forum with such a divergent and broad inclusion of users with different Socio/Economic and political back grounds and beliefs and stay level headed in discussions and respectful of others beliefs. Way things should be and is enjoyable to be a part of.

I would note that despite my profile here saying Kubuntu developer, I contribute to the packaging of both Neon and Kubuntu, and much of it goes 2 ways, to the benefit of both.

And MUCH appreciated. One of my dreams about winning the Powerball is to give the Kubuntu/Neon folks about $10M to help out. I know that even $10 would be of help but my wife's two surgeries put us $10K in the hole and we are slowly crawling out.
