Kub 14 LTS update issue

been using Kub14 LTS (fresh install) for 2 yrs with many updates /Muon, but last one -a month ago- gave error : something like no room, update stopped, but restart needed to complete, but Wont RESTART or Sh Dn w/ clik!
Thankfully Sleep works normally, am afraid to force turnoff since FireFox, Abiword still work.
Originally made / partition = 20 G with /home >200 G (dual boot / W7).
So tried, but hard to find space, but finally Gprtd said ~1 G free, so should be enough?
To confirm, clikd on sys... under favorites and many progs (terminal, gparted, dolphin, K3b) disappeared !
dolphin still shows under favorites but nothing after clik.
so i prob need to reinstall but prob not from orig disk- finally found 14.04.5.
of course don't have a bakup- but now hard to make w/o dolphin.

Support for 14 ends in a year and now i read don't upgrade to 16 so maybe should install now?
i'm not looking for fancy just stable. Seems like too much bling in 16.
so looked at Xub, but uses gnome repo and 3yr LTS. Lub?
Any suggestions?

Have now read may run out of space in / from updates, wish muon could warn!

Switch to KDE Neon User Edition and use Btrfs for your root file system.
Getting low on space? Plug in a 16, 32 or 64Gb USB stick and add it to your pool.
Then, reduce your HD footprint to below 75% usage, archiving what you want to keep, and then remove USB stick from the pool.

With Btrfs you can make @ and @home dated backups in seconds and restore to any date in minutes.

You need to clean up your system.

Open a konsole and run:

sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-get autoremove

• apt-get clean → cleans the packages and install script in /var/cache/apt/archives/
• apt-get autoclean → cleans obsolete deb-packages, less than clean
• apt-get autoremove → removes orphaned packages which are not longer needed from the system, but not purges them, use the --purge option together with the command for that.

When it’s finished, close the konsole, logout and reboot.
