    Can't boot from Kubuntu cd/dvd

    Hi all,
    Could someone please help "a complete newbie" to Kubuntu.

    I have both the live cd and the dvd iso burnt to disk.

    When i try to boot from any of them all i get is a message;
    Error cannot find boot record.
    Replace disk and press any key.
    It then reloads windows.

    Is there something i'm missing or doing wrong?

    Are you trying to boot from the same CD drive you used to burn the image? Sometimes that can make a difference. Have you checked the MD5 sum of the downloaded ISO image? It may have neen corrupted during the download.

    If all else fails, you can order a CD via ShipIt (https://shipit.ubuntu.com/)

      It sounds like you've already put CD first in the boot order so I won't go over that. Three suggestions:

      For burning isos in windows, use Astonsoft Deepburner.
      Slow down your burning speed.
      Test these discs on another computer.

          I am new to kubuntu and i tried to install using the live cd version, it reported the same error as you continously, a much easier way for you would be to download the alternate cd installer which is the text mode installtion like the previous version "breezy". Located at: http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu-...rnate-i386.iso oor any other mirror suited to you.
          Burn the image using nero in windows and then install it.
          Very important , make sure you burn the image as slow as possible.
          Also make sure you use top quality media from either sony or verbatim and after that installation will work properly
