[GRUB] How do you get in Kubuntu's GRUB?

I was going to install Kubuntu on my PC, but when I held SHIFT to get into GRUB, it just booted up like I had never pressed SHIFT.
I need to put the 'toram' parameter so I can plug in a keyboard (since the native keyboard does not work).
How can I get into the GRUB?

If memory servers me well, depending on the system boot process, I think on most newer systems, once in the grub loader portion, ESC is the key to use and not SHIFT.
