    [PRINTER] Can't install network printer

Printer utility doesn’t work. After going through all the steps, locating the networked printer, finding the driver, installing it, and hitting [finish], the utility shows NO PRINTER. However, in Dolphin, the printer shows up under [Network].

For network printers, since about 18.04 with Kubuntu one does not normally install anything, not printer nor driver; printers are discovered. I've found it difficult to stop this happening.

On 16.04 I bought a new Brother printer and installing it was a mission, eventually I found an installer on the Singapore Brother web site that worked. I had to do a reinstall of Kubuntu 18.04 after motherboard problems corrupted the file system, and in the forest of reinstalling software I forgot about the printer. A couple of weeks later I printed something out, then it occurred to me that I hadn't done any of that installer stuff. I tried to redo it, but that got me two printers configured. I did a clean reinstall of 20.04 (to clear out lots of mucking around) and didn't bother, it just works.

So, is the printer connected to the same local network (on the same subnet, whatever that means), and on, when you boot Kubuntu?

        Kubuntu release 21.04.
In the Brother page, it did not refer to wifi connections - only USB. Does this mean that one must first use the USB method and THEN wifi will work?

Yes, the printer is on the same local network, wireless mode.
As stated in the original post, I went through the steps to "find" the printer, and its driver, and afterwards [FINISH].
          KUBUNTU DID NOT INSTALL IT.

I know this doesn't clear things up, but as a wireless printer, there are no drivers to install --hence the 'driverless' label.
Something else may be the issue here.

But probably this particular printer is seen on the network, but doesn't follow the standard wifi printing protocols, or something along those lines.

You might try selecting a specific driver, and selecting a model that is very close to your model number, and see if that works. It *may* be easier just to grab something directly from brother.

You will need to get the ip address for the printer for wireless setup.

              UPDATE:
System Settings / Printer : NO printers have been configured or discovered.
              -but-
System Profiler & Benchmark shows the Brother printer.
              . . .
IN LibreWriter, printer shows up, but cannot print.
              “Printer will not start”
              . . .
(Side issue : LibreWriter will not load files from LAN, but DOLPHIN will initiate opening LibreWriter, when the remote file is selected.) Sigh of Newbeeness.

I have the ip address. Just have no clue as to how to enter it.

I'm sorry I provoked frustration, but I was suggesting that if the printer is on the network properly there are no 'steps to "find" the printer'; performing any steps at all may not help.

A way to simplify networking issues is to fix the IPv4 address of the printer using its MAC address, in the router (they vary where in the settings you do that, mine calls it "Lan - Static DHCP").

In any case, pinging the printer in a konsole is a good idea. And, accessing the printer status via http in a browser might shed light.

Seems like there's several comments in the first answer here that might lead to a solution: https://askubuntu.com/questions/5465...2340dw-printer

                        Thank you.
                        Tried https://askubuntu.com/questions/5465...2340dw-printer
                        Linked to brother page: https://support.brother.com/g/b/down...ng=4&type3=625
                        Followed instructions.
Printer now appears in SYSTEM SETTINGS.
BUT attempting to print a TEST PAGE, error msg "Unable to locate printer "BRWDCE......"

Did a PING test. Printer responds.
                        What more can I do?

NOTE : I did try connecting the printer via USB cable, and it did function correctly. Did a test print from LibreOffice Writer.

Despite the installation of the driver and it showing up in devices, still cannot print.

                              Maybe see https://support.brother.com/g/b/faqe...aq00002806_000

If your printer only supports wireless connection on 2.4 GHz bands and your wireless network is only broadcasting 5 GHz, that could be the problem?
