Desktop glitch on macbook pro 2011

Hi

I've just done fresh install of Kubuntu 20.04 on an old 2011 macbook pro (intel i7-2635QM + AMD Radeon GPU)

The login screen looks normal but after i enter my password the desktop glitches

(Tried uploading a photo but getting a 'You are not authorized to create or remove attachments' error . . .)

I've rebooted a number of times and the strange thing is that every now and then (25% of the time) the desktop will load without any glitches. . .

You will be able to post images after you have made the minimum number of posts. Three, I beleive.


In any case, this may be a common issue with 2011 Macbooks with the Radeon GPU, as these seem to be prone to failures. You might try disabling the discrete AMD GPU , and use the integrated one, to see if this helps things:
