Installed Kubuntu on my iMac but headphone sound is not working.

Hi all

I recently made the transition from using OSX to Linux, enjoying it very much so far but having one issue and that is with my sound.

The iMac is a late 2013 model (Smaller screen) and Kubuntu is installed on a seperate partition and the setup allows me to choose which to boot into when I restart.

Kubuntu version is (uname -r): 4.8.0-41-generic

MY sound on internal speakers works fine. Soon as I plug in the headphones (via the 5mm jack, not the USB) there is no sound.

I have tried reinstalling pulseaudio and fiddled with the alsomixer but am getting no where I am afraid. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction I'd be most appreciative.
