Yes, I am leaving this thread as well. It gets frustrating when someone asks a question, you answer it, and then their further replies make it clear they have not read what you took the time to post.

I used the term .directory file at least 5 times.

If you get help in the future, please read what is posted.

There is always the potential for difficulty when trying to communicate [Oxford-English Dictionary definition 1.4] "(of two people) be able to share and understand each other's thoughts and feelings."

I know it can be frustrating when one feels/thinks/believes/knows that they have provided the information necessary to satisfy the question being asked, or that the asker feels/thinks/believes/knows that they have provided the information needed for the answerer, but both parties need to understand the real limitations of trying to do so only in written form. As human beings, we all make assumptions, both of ourselves and of others, of and about ours and their abilities. Those assumptions often turn out not to be true.

Please try to keep in mind that everyone here (in KFN) has different skills and ability levels. Don't let frustration rule our replies.

When I check the desktop icons paths they indicate a...local/share/applications folder, but this is not the folder to which I linked the icons, and the images are different.

          Can anyone explain?

          Thanks
You do not understand the circumstances.
That does seem to be the case here.

There is no effective communication going on in this thread, and both you and Oshuluvr are getting frustrated, resulting in emotion, rather than understanding and patience, influencing your (plural, as in both of you) responses. We are better than that. We are a community; a family; of Kubuntu enthusiasts who genuinely want to help when help is sought.

I can understand Oshunluvr's frustration. I read and followed the steps in his answer in post #10. The instructions are clearly stated, and the results are as indicated. However, this may not be addressing your issue, so:

"I linked my desktop icons to retrieve their images from a folder in my home directory."
What 'desktop icons'; How did you 'link' them; What 'folder in my home directory' did you put the 'linked' icons?

Later, I moved some of the icons to another folder.
Are you saying that linked icons "from a folder in my home directory" where subsequently moved?

You see, even I have questions about what you are trying to convey to us. It might be useful; helpful even; to take screenshots, annotate them (if you are able to), and post them with an explanation of what each screenshot is showing us. If we can see what you are seeing, maybe your narrative will become clearer to everyone, and a helpful answer (the ultimate goal) for you can be provided.
