Wireless Works For Root Only Not Any Other User

I believe the reason my wireless network is not accessible to my standard user is because of the wireless router security options.
When I log in as root, the wireless connection screen displays WPA2 as one of 2 or 3 different options, and that matches my home router.
When I log in as my own user, the only option displayed is WEP. This setting has to match the router or the wireless connection won't work.

Is my own user missing some permissions on the wireless network config? Do I need to log in as root and give my user more rights?
Home office = Linux Mint 18 working well Thanks to you!
Home studio = AVLinux dual core "Conroe" 6750 P5Ke mb 6gb ram Nvidia GeForce 210 hopefully soon to wipe out Win 7 (all is 32 bit)

WEP? What version of Kubuntu are you running, and are you using networkmanager or wicd or ?

Well, that's the rub, this is actually AVLinux. I'm trying to convert my home music studio machine to Linux. Please don't be too hard on me, this forum has the best help...and I"m kinda thinking that AVLinux is a version of Kubuntu or Debian... I'm obviously no expert (yet) {) This place has the best help and the AVLinux forum is much slower to reply.

I finally found a screen that lets me configure the wifi connections, and includes a checkbox to allow for all users.

I also noticed - quite by accident - that if I move the little wifi antenna 6 inches, the connection is suddenly stable, or at least it doesn't drop so easily.

I can't imagine why the people at ASUS thought a 3 foot cable on the wifi antenna would be plenty. Gee Thanks! That's barely enough to get it out from the table the computer is sitting under, and it's already at a disadvantage being in the basement. The router is in the room directly above me.

I'm using the "5G" connection with WPA2. All connections are allowed by mac address, so the machine is already recognized by the router.

We won't boot or berate you for asking a question that is not directly related to Kubuntu. We aren't that kind of Forum.

Sounds like you resolved the issue, which is a good thing.

I am going downstairs to test that notion right now. I was logged on as root because that seemed to be the only way I could get to all of the settings, and the wireless is working and stable while logged on as root. I have not yet figured out how to give my standard user more permissions, and I have not found any kind of GUI that is intended for managing users and permissions. I got at least partially spoiled by the ease of use with Mint.

Plus I have a bad cold right now, and I caught myself nodding off in the captain's chair downstairs last night. Had to make a run for the pillow before I could finish testing my changes.
