I believe the reason my wireless network is not accessible to my standard user is because of the wireless router security options.
When I log in as root, the wireless connection screen displays WPA2 as one of 2 or 3 different options, and that matches my home router.
When I log in as my own user, the only option displayed is WEP. This setting has to match the router or the wireless connection won't work.
Is my own user missing some permissions on the wireless network config? Do I need to log in as root and give my user more rights?
