    How Do I Install Wine Using Synaptic? New repository? Wine.com has no Kubuntu version

    Want to install Wine to run old Windows software. Per the Wine.com (winehq.com) website, Wine is available automatically for Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, Mageia and Mac OS X. For other distros, one is advised to query the distro community. Thanks.

    ".com" is a Windows extension. Linux doesn't use it. Open Synaptic, enter wine in the search box and you'll find it in the results. You also may want to install PlayOnLinux (POL) for some games. You will be given a Wine main menu entry and sub entries include "installing an application using Wine".

      also the version for "ubuntu" is the version for kubuntu , lubuntu , ubuntu and other *buntu distros. remember this for the future kubuntu is ubuntu with kde applications. when you see some program that has an ubuntu version that repo will work on kubuntu as well. there are differences but its just because we use the kde programs , some examples below.

      kate -> gedit
      kdesudo -> gksu
      dophin -> nataulas
      konsole -> terminal
