    Unverified Software

I have just tried to install some updates (NVIDIA X Server Settings) and System Updates.

I received a message telling me that these packages are unverified.

Can you ask the authors to verify these software packages so that I can safely install the updates.

    Thank you

    Unverified Software

Part of the Kubuntu eco system is vetted repositories. This means that when you add a repository to your sources.list using the apt-add-repository command the public encryption keys of developers who contributed apps to the repository are added to the key-ring maintained by the package manager.

When you add a package from outside the vetted repositories it is your responsibility to also import the developer's public key.

Since you have not stated the exact package name, or where you obtained it from, there is nothing anyone can do until you supply more info. Specifically, you PC make & model, and the model of your NVidia card/chip. It may be that your needs may not be satisfied by the package you are trying to install. Being unvetted it could be that the package is malware.

I did not obtain the packages from an outside source.

I was notified, as usual, from the Muon Update Manager.

          Hello,

          Thanks for replying.

I used the command line and software was updated and upgraded.

I did not see any reference to : 'no public key'

          I am surprised.

I also performed an autoremove and gained some disk space.

          Best wishes.

          A

          Ps. Does unverified mean unsigned?

Why does Muon give a warning, yet the command line performs the function without notification?

It could have been a transient thing. I nearly always update from the command line, and I sometimes see errors like this, and after a while they go away.

It could be due to something like a specific repository server or mirror being slow to respond, or packages in the middle of being updated on the servers.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.
