LibreOffice Writer will not open files in a network share

While core utilities and applications can open files in a network share (public or private), LibreOffice Writer fails to do so and closes automatically.

Has anyone else encountered this issue in the current Kubuntu edition?

Has anyone encountered (or not) this behavior if using OpenOffice?

What type of share? SMB? FTP? Run libreoffice from the terminal, try the file & post the output

SMB. Thank you for the reply, but we have already switched over to Mint 18 KDE. Even as a "beta" still needing work, it has proven more stable and does not exhibit this or other problems with third party applications.
