    Kubuntu ver 16

I have been using kubuntu 14.04 for some time. There will come a time when support will cease.
Would it be a good idea to download and install kubuntu 16.04 LTS (32 bit) - I assume that the programme is stable. I have 1 GB RAM, but 14.04 works well.

    Thanks

There are three years left on 14.04. Plenty of time. Unless you have a curiosity itch that you can't scratch I recommend staying with 14,04, especially since you have only 1Gb RAM.l and 14.04 works well.

I would not expect any problems relating to memory. The system requirements for 14.04 and 16.04 are the same.
