    can't mount android device

    hello there,

    I'm running Kubuntu 16.04 on an Asus ZenBook UX301LA (please see below). I also have two android devices (Asus ZenPad + Asus ZenFone).

    when I connect either device, Dolphin shows the following message:

    The process for the mtp protocol died unexpectedly.

    (occasionally the message is slightly different: Could not read. Reason: Could not claim the USB device).

    I found a few posts about having to install kio-mtp (which - according to Synaptics - is already installed: version 0.75 + git 20140304) but no other hint there might be a different solution.

    can you please help? thanks.

    - sorry "Alt+F2 then type dolphin then click on Help > About KDE" doesn't give any useful info about KDE...(that I can see..);

    I tried switching to USB>PTP (instead of MTP) on my android device: I can read but cannot transfer files Kubuntu>Android.

      update: reboot + connect android device again. This time I get the following error:

      The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1/1-2/ does not exist.

          On my desktop MTP android transfer will not work or fails part way through, no matter what I try.

          On my laptop it works flawlessly with same config.

            MTP is inherently dodgy, perhaps partly because it's a Microsoft protocol. Have you tried using KDE Connect? One end already in your Xenial, the other free in Google play.
