not as far as I can see. I've just tried again.

    Here's what it looks like:

    On terminal:
    2: asus-bluetooth: Bluetooth
    Soft blocked: yes
    Hard blocked: no

    and

    On Application Launcher:
    Application Launcher>Advanced Bluetooth Settings>Bluetooth is dsabled>Fix it>Your Bluetooth adapter is powered off>Fix it>nothing happens>close window>Advanced Bluetooth Settings>No bluetooth adapters have been found.

I found a couple of things you might want to look at - first, this bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...x/+bug/1209124

And then, the workaround listed here - http://askubuntu.com/questions/39602...i-unblock-it-w

Looks like you're far from the only person with this issue, which should make you feel a little better

edit: Linked to the same bug report twice

OK, many thanks for the links and your help, I'll go through them later on today and then report back.

          bingo:

Ctrl-F "To achieve that effect, just add blacklist asus-nb-wmi to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" at http://askubuntu.com/questions/39602...i-unblock-it-w

Bluetooth now works. I'm still testing it but can't see anything wrong with it (after re-booting a few times and sending + receiving files from a couple of devices).

I'm not using F2 - I wasn't even aware of its existence - and when I press it nothing happens. The other Fx keys work all right.

so if no one has any objection, i'll mark this as solved. Please do let me know if you have further ideas/suggestions, though.

thank you so much to everyone who helped me solve this issue!!!

            quick update/corrigendum:
            not all Fx keys work:
            Fn+F3/4 (backlit keyboard),
            Fn+F10/11/12 (volume control)
don't work after adding blacklist asus-nb-wmi to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.

so I removed it now. At least I know it can be added if need be. So hardly a solution...

That probably has nothing to do with bluetooth and everything to do with how those keys are mapped in KDE; I'm pretty sure kmix has to be running for the volume keys to work - this should help a little:

              http://askubuntu.com/questions/59996...tons-dont-work

              Good luck

I believe you but am a bit confused: I thought Fx keys are already mapped (in KDE) on my machine. They all work out-of-the box (well, except for Fn-F5/6 = screen brightness, which needed /etc/default/grub to be edited). Are you saying that I can blacklist asus-nb-wmi to have Bluetooth work and then activate Kmix to re-map them?

Btw, I installed Kmix but it crashes instantly - doesn't even launch. "Go to the KDE settings (...)" at the link you sent doesn't show anything re: Kmix (at least I couldn't find it). Point 4 of http://www.webupd8.org/2013/12/thing...ubuntu-on.html doesn't seem to be related - brightness and volume keys do work, except when I do the blacklist asus-nb-wmi thing...

Guess I misunderstood. I wonder if asus-nb-wmi is what maps those keys in the first place? If so perhaps remapping them would work?

                    no troubles
it'd indeed be great if it were possible to remap those keys. Hopefully there's a workaround somewhere.
