adding server capabilities to Kubuntu 16.04 LTS

hello, I have installed Kubuntu 16.04 desktop with Plasma 5.5.5 LTS and it works fine, however I wanted to know if I can add files from the repos that allow it ti be used as a server rather than reinstalling the server ISO image.....I'm having trouble with samba and wanted to try a different solution, thanks!

you can install whatever servers you want the gui will not affect them working or not.What are you trying to do? Now if you don't want a GUI and wish to only have CLI you need to remove alot of packages and it would be faster to just install the server iso . you can cheat this by just disabling sddm (sudo systemctl disable sddm) and the login manager won't start you will get a CLI login prompt instead
