Getting samba to work in Kubuntu 16.04 LTS with plasma 5.5.5

Hi, I have recently reinstalled Kubuntu 16.04 LTS since I had an unstable version of Plasma, essentially I rolled back to plasma 5.5.5. Everything works fine, its a great system. The only thing I can't get to work is Samba which I want to set up to create a shared folder so my only windows pc can use it. I followed the instructions on this web page (https://nowardev.wordpress.com/2012/...error-and-ect/)
and Samba seems to be set up since the icon appears in the dropdown menu, but when I click on it I get asked for my password, then.....nothing happens.....can anyone let me know how to get Samba working? Many thanks!!

It could be the samba password file is not set up. I use system-config-samba usually to set-up users and once on a reinstall it complained about the user file not being present. The below link has an entry alluding to that. Hope it helps.
