kwin-effect-nightmode on kubuntu 14.04

When I installed Kubuntu 12.04 I needed a program to adjust the screen brightness/contrast (I like the screen to be a bit darker when I read text and I want to be able to control it from the keyboard / GUI and not from the screen itself )
Someone here recommended to me on the kwin-effect-nightmode
So I download it from here and it worked very nice for me.

Now, after upgrading to 14.04 it doesn't work anymore.
I went back to the program's page to download the correct file for 14.04 but the download link for Ubuntu doesn't seem to work anymore.

I managed to find it on the PPA

Do you think it's safe to download it from this PPA ?

I still don't know if it's gonna work though, so if anybody knows of a program that can do what this program could I would like to here about it

Seems to work with the Debian J - rebuilding against the Debian packages.

So who is the packager ... srog or paul collins ??
And what file should I be downloading?
There are 4 different options (I have a 64 bit system, so I guess it should be the amd64 but I'm not sure with all the other options)

By the way, is this still gonna work if I upgrade to 16.04 in the future ? I haven't seen anything for 16.04 yet.

The "shady dude (srog)" is Rog131; he is the packager. Pull down the amd64 .deb file. As to whether it will work in 16.04, probably not, unless it gets rebuilt/packaged for it.

I'm just wondering though, Kubuntu has so much to offer in its GUI. How is something as basic as this doesn't get to the official release ?

Where do I need to go to ask for it to become official ?
