How to install Google Earth without becoming a member of Google?

    Kubuntu 14.04 LTS

I installed Google Earth. When attempting to open, it flashes briefly and closes.

I do not want to give my personal information to Google and cannot get forum help without registering. Has anyone fixed my problem? I would like to view the pyramids from satellite. Thanks!

Good evening Shabaktanai, How did you install Google Earth?

Did you follow the instructions found here -> https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GoogleEarth ?

For the record, Google Earth is a 32 bit app, it needs some 32 bit libraries in order for it to run.

This is how I did it:

      https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...t=google+earth

It's not totally trivial but works well, just copy & paste the commands.

Since the original posting there have been a few changes, just follow the suggestions you get.

Alternatively you can always install PCLinuxOS, it has Goo gleEarth pre-installed.

Thanks I am pretty much a kubuntu loyalist. I am learning to install virtualbox applications and may install PClinux in a virtual machine. With help I got a virtualbox installation to work, but I have not repeated the process since I was helped.

Hopefully I can repeat the process, but I my memory is not as good as it used to be, so I may or may not succeed.

I love the Kubuntu Operating System; I hope it does not become too problematic in future distributions to be able to stick with it. Thanks for the suggestion, friend.
