One doesn't "have" to have "many" software sources. You "need" to have the ones "necessary" for what you want from your system. That said, "I" suggest/recommend ensuring that the following items in Muon Software Sources are checked (made active):
Kubuntu Software tab:
All (except Source code, which is not needed unless you are compiling packages)
Other Software tab:
Canonical Partners
Updates tab:
All under Kubuntu updates

Pre-release is exactly what it says, so it is entirely optional and up to you. Ubuntu does put some things there for testing before releasing to the wild.
The sources can be disabled if you wish unless you have a need for the source or plan to compile things and even then is often not necessary.

Thank you
What is the significance of enabling, or not, the box indicating cdrom?
Under 'Sources'
why is the following url not enabled by default, should it be enabled?
http://archive.canonical.com.ubuntu
Thank youkubuntu version: 16.04.5 LTS

You have a mixed set of repositories (12.04/14.04).Last edited by LinkBot; Feb 06, 2016, 03:45 AM.

Thank you for the links. I will read them.
In the meantime. It looks like I should remove the Precise url. At present, it is enabled, and will not disable.
Am I right in thinking that all the links should refer to Trusty , I hope that I can identify them in the repositories. From the above links, I can only identify Trusty from the right hand column.
Best wishes.kubuntu version: 16.04.5 LTS

Move your mouse pointer onto an empty area of your desktop. Click once to ensure the Desktop has 'focus'. Now type: kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list and press Enter.
Locate any lines that contain deb http://archive.canonical.com.ubuntu precise and delete them.
Save and close the file. Shut down and reboot your PC.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Thank you.
I know have cdrom[kubuntu disabled.
Three enabled: archive, security, extras - all Trusty.
What does the icon next to the waste-bin signify? All greyed, except archive.
Best wishes
Ps. What has been the consequence for my OS bearing in mind that I have been including a reference to Precise in muon?Last edited by anonprivate; Feb 07, 2016, 11:27 PM.kubuntu version: 16.04.5 LTS
