Error messages in Kmail that I do not understand and need help to fix.

I just installed Kubuntu 14.04. In the process of configuring things I opened Kmail and found error messages:

    MySQL server log contains errors.
Aconadi control process not registered at D-Bus
Aconadi server process not registered at D-Bus
    No resource agents found.
Current Akonadi server error log found.
Previous Aconadi server error log found.

Until these problems are fixed, Kmail will not function.

I was unable to understand the help found using google search. Can someone help me? Thanks!

It's been a while since I've used Kmail and Akonadi. It looks to me that akonadi is not started on your system. You can start and stop it from the command line with 'akonadictl'. 'akonadictl start' starts the daemon, 'akonadictl stop' stops it.

As an aside, I have not used Kmail for about 2 years because I found it unreliable and unsuitable for managing 100s of emails each day. The IMAP client when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange IMAP server is particularly troublesome. It's too bad. There are features that I really like in Kmail. But needing to start/restart akonadi and clearing out the corrupted database on a weekly basis got old for me. I have since switched to other email clients and my challenges with managing large amounts of email ended.

Thanks for the reply. I have used Kmail for a long time, but my email usage is very simple. I have never had this problem occur. Because I was concerned, I installed Thunderbird so I would be current with incoming emails. Is Thunderbird one that you would recommend? I really do not want to change, but since Akonadi was included in Kubuntu, I have had several Akonadi related problems over the recent past and really do not want to deal with that either.

I will attempt your solution; thanks for the prompt and thoughtful reply.

Friend, it said that Akonadi was already running. Perhaps the problem is something else. ;(
