adept wouldn't open

I just install universe updates now adept wouldn;t open. The same thing happened yesterday. I then could re boot to Kubuntu wouldn't accept my password. Tried changing password in root with no luck. Re installed Kubuntu this afternoon things were going ok until I did the update.
Where do I go from hear?
