Moved a few videos from Windows to 14.04 today. Opened one and Dragon Player launched. It required a plugin or so to play. It downloaded quickly and the video played and audio functioned. The videos were previously downloaded and are .mp4 format. I just played about a minute's worth for function check. I assume Dragon Player is the default player. I see reference to others, especially VLC. Any reason to install VLC? Lastly, I downloaded Adobe Flash yesterday and it worked. I see reference to Pepper Flash. Any need to install it or are these things nothing more than a personal preference? Thanks.

VLC is considered by many to be the preferred, all-around, video player.
I also like kaffeine, and use it as a default.
Pepper Flash Player is maintained by Google, and is newer than Adobe Flash Player. Adobe currently still provides security fixes for Adobe Flash Player. Google provides newer features in Pepper Flash Player. Pepper Flash Player can currently only be used with Chromium (and with Chrome).
You'll get good advice from others here on all this. Somewhere around here there is a post with a listing of video players and details. You'd probably be good with Dragon Player, VLC, or some other of your choosing (kaffeine).
Try two or three on some videos, and see how they play and how usable the controls are. btw, I have all three of those installed. An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way. Charles Bukowski

PepperFlash can be used in Firefox based browsers with a bridging (wrapper) of sorts... its not a direct install.
I highly suggest using it rather than the antique adobe flash for linux...
One way: http://www.howtogeek.com/193876/usin...-and-outdated/ this requires manual updating
Another way: http://www.webupd8.org/2014/05/insta...in-ubuntu.html this uses a PPAKubuntu 18.04 on AMD
